To ensure consistent success across all CIMS programs, we embed five core elements in every initiative:
- Cultural and Linguistic Relevance: Programs reflect Sub-Saharan African languages, values, and experiences. Services are culturally grounded and offered in preferred languages to build trust.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Programs foster emotional safety, dignity, and empowerment and staff engage with empathy and cultural awareness.
- Community Leadership: Programs include community input and be led, when possible, by those with lived migrant experience.
- Inclusive Access: Programs are free, flexible, and open to all, regardless of status, literacy, or digital access.
- Integrated Support: Programs aim to ensure stability and impact by connecting participants to food, housing, health, and more.
1. Housing Stability
We secure safe, affordable housing for families through direct navigation, targeted financial aid, and culturally responsive case management. Our team mediates landlord–tenant issues and engages in eviction diversion to prevent homelessness and keep families stably housed.
2. Economic Mobility
We equip migrants with the skills and connections to access quality jobs and set up businesses. Services include workforce-readiness training, employment-focused ESL, résumé and interview coaching, and trade-specific skills. We partner with employers and intermediaries to link participants to jobs, apprenticeships, and career pathways.
3. Community Wellness & Behavioral Health
We partner with health centers to expand preventive and treatment care access for African migrants. Our Behavioral Health Program addresses war trauma, displacement stigma, and cultural shock through Ubuntu Healing Circles. We also provide oral health education, referrals, and language-accessible navigation for timely, appropriate care.
4. Youth & Family Support
We break education and employment barriers through GED prep, skills training, and CareerLink connections. Youth gain tutoring and mentorship to thrive academically and socially, while caregivers join multilingual workshops that strengthen family resilience and cultural integration.
5. Digital Access
Our Computer and Electronics Recycling Program provides free refurbished devices to lowincome families, students, and migrants, closing the digital divide and expanding access to education, employment, and opportunity.
